Only in Spain, around 30% of cancer patients feel isolated at some point during their illness. Loneliness can negatively affect both their emotional well-being and their overall prognosis. Several factors contribute to this, including difficulties in communication between patients and their loved ones, often due to the emotional impact of the cancer diagnosis.

There was not any treatment or service to solve the issue until Unsilenced Words: the first software that uses innovative technologies like facial recognition to extract patients’ loved ones feeling that are blocked and transforms it into personalized letters for patients.

AI is supposed to separate us, but Unsilenced Words, by addressing cancer-related loneliness, demonstrates that technology can help us be closer to the people we love.

Despite all the innovative drugs and treatments in oncology, studies show that 46% of cancer patients feel lonely, although they may not be physically alone. Their loved ones struggle to express emotions and put them into words due to the shock of the diagnosis, creating a communication blocking that worsens patients' disease progression.

Studies show that the brain areas responsible for facial expressions and language are interconnected, meaning facial expressions are a language themselves. This is why, using facial recognition, we can easily understand what someone is feeling without them saying a word.

We developed the first AI-powered software that integrates facial recognition and natural language processing to detect the feelings of loved ones towards cancer patients and help them express the emotions cancer silences by putting them into words.

With over 54.6 million people reached and a media value exceeding 3.1 million euros, this campaign has demonstrated significant media and social impact. Additionally, its implementation in five oncology centers highlights its ability to generate tangible and replicable change in the lives of thousands of patients.
