When you hear that most men receive their first bunch of flowers at their own funeral, it makes you stop and think. And in a country like New Zealand where self-harm among Kiwi blokes is too high, we’re having too many funerals.
For mental health month, Yeastie Boys, the world’s smallest multi-national brewery wanted to do something to make an impact to New Zealanders across the country. While giving flowers to each other isn’t really something a lot of men do, but sitting down with a beer and chatting is.
The Blokequet – a seasonal mid-strength hazy pale ale brewed with the earl grey blue flower, to be drunk with mates while having a yarn about how they’re really getting on. The new drinkable bunch of flowers was a 2.5% pale gold, has a scant bitterness, with an explosion of ‘flowers’ and tropical, citrus fruit to taste. The hop aromas have subtle floral notes from the earl grey blue flower, notes of bergamot, orange citrus and white wine spice.
Brewed to make a difference, each and every can was also a donation to the I AM HOPE Foundation, supporting the youth of New Zealand and the leaders of tomorrow.
With a limited-release run, the Blokequet was available at selected bars and liquor stores as well as being sold online and in packs of two (so you can share it with the boys of course).
