As Ireland faced the peak of its homeless crisis in 2019 and numbers hit historic highs, An Post felt the need to act. To live up to its purpose, act for the common good and improve the quality of life of Irish people, An Post committed to taking full look at the challenges Irish people face and identifying ways it could help.

The cruel irony of homelessness is that to get help you need an address. As Ireland’s national postal service, An Post sought a way to fix this systematic issue. Without an address, access to health services, education, housing opportunities and potential employment are nearly impossible to obtain, forever perpetuating the cycle of homelessness.
Idea
An Post created ‘Address Point’ – a free nationwide service that provides a fixed address to those without a fixed home. It enables them to receive regular post and access to essential services by creating a proxy address at local post offices, allowing them to collect their post at a convenient time and place, with dignity.
Growth
Address Point was welcomed with open arms by the homeless community and its support services and has since been adopted by over 50% of the adult homeless population.
