Structural wearables that augment the human body by offering additional support was prominent during CES 2025. Hypershell displayed its X Series which integrates exoskeleton technology to enhance physical movement. Designed to wrap around the hips and thighs, the technology gives outdoor explorers an extra boost, whilst the engineering enhances endurance and reduces physical strain. Whether it’s for hikes or extensive outdoor adventure across challenging terrains, the premise of Hypershell X Series is to allow wearers to do so with ease and comfort. And whilst it could be used for those requiring walking assistance, it is designed for everyone. The Hypershell Carbon X model won the CES Innovation Awards in Robotics and is slated for global sale on January 20, 2025.
Garments and gadgets give people an extra super-human boost.

German Bionic showcased its Apogee Ultra designed to aid the workforce when it comes to heavy loads and high-intensity tasks. It provides 36kg (80lbs) of lifting support and makes walking easier, reporting a 10-kilometer walk will feel like 8km. “The Apogee Ultra is the culmination of years of innovation,” Armin G. Schmidt, CEO of German Bionic says in a release. “It is not just the most powerful exoskeleton but a dynamic solution for real-world challenges, redefining what’s possible for workforce support.”
Exoskeleton tech is also being used for robotics designed specifically for those with medical assistance. The XoMotion by Canadian company Human in Motion Robotics aids individuals with lower extremity motor deficits. Wearers are strapped into the hands-free and self-balancing robotic device which conducts postural control, walking, and mimics physiological motion of the lower extremity.
Meanwhile, aiming to enhance the human body outside of exoskeleton tech is US-based outdoor performance-wear Voormi for its Mij wearable technology designed to uniquely track and optimize thermal performance. The sensor-based textile tech can be embedded into everyday clothing and offer real-time insights into body temperature as wearers move through their day. Dan English, CEO of Voormi said in a release, “the possibilities of technology are endless; we believe consumers should be expecting more from their clothing and Mij™ is now that baseline and standard.”
Performance is being enhanced by technology that offers powerful support for the human form. Making the everyday a little easier and offering insights that can further augment the future of humans.
