We’re unpacking the mood-boosting tech launches that caught our eye at the Las Vegas Convention Center this week.

LG unveiled a new MoodUp fridge that reflects your emotional state. LED door panels change color to suit a consumer’s mood with 23 individual color options for the top and bottom panels and sensors that detect when a user has entered the kitchen. A built-in Bluetooth speaker can also connect with nearby devices to play any audio or music, and additional settings will program the door pattern to change and flash to the rhythm of the music played. The doors are smart, too: the color panels will blink if not closed properly.

Users can choose from 197,000 color mode combinations, or choose from preset modes that articulate seasonal settings, emotional states, and various themes that are customizable through an app. George McQuilkin II, a representative for LG at CES, tells VML Intelligence that in creating the MoodUp Refrigerators, the company aimed to “provide a better environment for our customers. Our theme for this year is about making life good.”

An anxiety-reducing pillow by Yukai Engineering expands and contracts to soothe the consumer holding it. As the pillow, called Fufuly, slows its “breathing” pattern, it guides the user’s breathing to match it, effectively calming the holder to a more restful state.

Citizen is unveiling its second-gen CZ Smartwatch to measure the alertness of its wearer. The “self-care advisor,” as the company calls it, is an AI-powered wearable running on technology from NASA and IBM Watson to assess the user’s chronotype using sleep data. The Wear OS watch can pitch tips and help the wearer build better habits to battle fatigue and increase better lifestyle habits.

Brands are introducing innovative and exciting new ways for consumers to self-soothe and regulate their emotions and habits, right from their homes.
