Because of the pandemic, most youngsters have gotten so used to ordering in that it effected the McDonald’s restaurants. They stayed empty.

Wi-Fi speed in Indonesia in notoriously bad. Which drives youngsters at home crazy. But some of them found a solution: The free and fast Wi-Fi at McDonald’s. Could we use this opportunity to get more youngsters to visit our restaurant not just for the best fast food, but also the fastest Wi-Fi?

Utilizing the open API from a popular online speed test, we created Wi-Fries. A speed test on the McDonald’s App that rewarded slow Wi-Fi at home with Fries at McDonald’s.

Wi-Fries tests the Wi-Fi speed at home and compares it with the Wi-Fi speed at McDonald’s. The bigger the difference in speed, the bigger the discount on fries. A QR code was then redeemable at our restaurant.

Wi-Fries was launched at all 297 restaurants. Reached 6,800,000 app users, saw a 60% increase in app usages and 45% reception rate.
