Miami Beach turns up the drama with its new reality tv-inspired campaign “Miami Beach Spring Break Reality Check”, proving that Miami Beach and Spring Break don’t mix. Following last year’s viral “Spring Breakup”, the city’s new campaign is a reality show parody that follows five friends as their friendships are put to the test from all of the spring break rules and regulations.

In March 2023, Miami Beach called a state of emergency during spring break, including curfews, regulated alcohol sales, increased police presence, and sobriety checkpoints. Despite the safety measures, there was still record-breaking crime.
For spring break 2024, we reframed the approach from authority as a force to control spring breakers to heartbreak as a reality check to change their behavior. As a result, the Miami Beach Breakup campaign went viral.
Building on the success of the 2024 campaign presented a new challenge for 2025. Replicating viral lightning is notoriously difficult, but the city needed to recapture its target audience's attention, understanding that simply reiterating rules wouldn't cut through the noise.
If 2024 was about breaking up with spring breakers, 2025 was about giving them a reason for why they shouldn’t even try to get back with us. We tapped into the cultural phenomenon of young friend groups visiting Miami Beach and finding themselves at odds, with differing expectations of "fun" leading to fractured friendships. Knowing the power of reality TV to both reflect and shape culture, we launched a disruptive campaign using this format to dramatically illustrate how Miami Beach's spring break rules can ruin a good time – and good friendships. The message: Think twice before planning your spring break getaway. The reality of a changed Miami Beach might just break up your friend group before the trip even really begins.
This year's production for Miami Beach Spring Break Reality Check, a three-day shoot compared to last year's single day, involved a more complex and ambitious approach. We showcased a greater breadth of talent, including more on-camera principals representative of our diverse community, and captured a wider range of Miami Beach locations, highlighting the city's multifaceted appeal. We developed a more robust suite of deliverables to ensure the campaign authentically resonated with its target audience. While Miami Beach may not be synonymous with Spring Break, it remains a premier destination throughout the year, welcoming visitors to experience its vibrancy and culture. This expanded production allowed us to underscore this message with greater depth and resonance.
